Blog #1: Industry Report

As you read about your industry,
what did you find most interesting?
As I was
reading about the industry, I found that the most interesting thing was how
fast the industry has grown. Global pharmaceuticals sales have increased 11.6%
in 2011, to over $956 billion, mainly driven by 28.6% growth in emerging
markets. Sales in China alone have increased by a huge 62.3% in 2011, this
reflects on the expanding middle class in china and the rise of standard of
living. Also the expansion of the healthcare funding by the government has
helped China. I found this interesting because I didn’t know that the industry
was growing at this rate and is still expanding.

What questions do you now want to
explore further in your project?
After
reading the industry report I am very interested in learning how big of an
impact the pharmaceuticals industry has on the global market? and what it would mean to the standard of living as a whole? how much
does it affect the global economy? Because judging from the industry report it
seems like it has a very big role.

What initial thoughts do you have
about the future of this industry?
I feel like the future of this
industry is bright and people will always be coming up with medicine to cures
for new diseases. I don’t feel like this industry is in any danger to shut down
as medicine and drugs are a necessity for us. As healthcare has become a big
issue in the United States, I feel like it will prosper in the future in the
U.S.

about your industry and/or assigned company.
My assigned company is Teva Pharmacueticals,
and one interesting data point is that it has announced 2012 net revenues worth
$20,317 million, up by 10.9 percent over last year, which was $18,312 million.

ReplyDeleteGood first blog post! It's great that you incorporated figures into the blog, as this will be useful during your final project. For future blogs, make sure that you have at least 300 words, excluding the questions. Also, try to make the post more cohesive - which will be easier from now on because you will only be answering one question. I want to see more analysis as well. Such as, do you think the pharmaceutical industry can maintain this growth? Why or why not?
